In fifteen minutes we are going to meet our first writer. Loads of school children are here but we are the only ones from Eatons Hill. The first writer we are going to meet is Jeni Mawter. We are going to meet her in marquee 2. We have five minutes left until we go into marquee 2. It is getting very crowded.

We are in the tent now and we can see Jeni Mawter. There are about four different schools around us. The workshop starts. Jeni tells us she uses her life experiences in her books. She gets her ideas from her children and her fat beagle, Bella. She writes books like the “So …” series and books like “Unleashed”. We buy “So Grotty” and “So Festy” and Jeni signs them for us. |

Next we meet Ingrid Jonach. She is only twenty-four. She wrote “The Frank Frankie”. She has a new book that is just about to be published, about Frankie going to France. Ingrid used to be a journalist and she tells us about one of her reports. It was about cheetahs that you could play soccer with at the Canberra Zoo. She went into the enclosure and was just about to stroke one when a lawn mower started in the next enclosure. The cheetah jumped up and she jumped back. The lawn mower had to be turned off and then the cheetahs went back to sleep. She is really nice and asks people to tell her something that has happened to them recently. She writes a newspaper report using two children’s stories, one of which is Charlie's. She says the first part of the report must have the most important information in it. The second part has the details and the third part must have the quotes because they are not so important and might get left out if there isn’t room in the newspaper. She likes surfing and is going to write a book about surfing. Ingrid signs our “Frank Frankie” books for us. |

Next we meet Morris Glietzman and he is s-o funny. He wears green rubber gloves so that he can shake hands with the cane toads, especially Limpy, Charm and Goliath. He is writing a new toad book called “Toad Surprise”, and there will be a fifth book called “Toad Ambush”. He asks us about how we kill cane toads so that he can warn Limpy, Charm and Goliath. Morris has written twenty-five books. His first and only rejection letter was when he sent a birthday card to a girl. He wrote “Happy Birthday, I love you, from Morris”. She wrote back, “ It isn’t my birthday and I don’t love you”. Morris says that the best way to start a book is to choose a character with a problem. All his books are like this. Morris signs all our books for us. |

Lastly we meet Felice Arena. He writes the Specky McGee books. He also wrote “Boys Rule” and “Girls Rock” with someone else. He used to be an actor and he was good. Felice does a show about Specky McGee. Some of the children read the parts and Felice even does some slow motion running which is very funny. We buy a book of his called “Wish” and he signs it for us. |
